Product Description
MSUD Lophlex is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for use under medical supervision. MSUD Lophlex is an isoleucine, leucine and valine-free amino acid-based powdered protein substitute, containing a balanced mix of essential and non-essential amino acids, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), vitamins, trace elements and some minerals. MSUD Lophlex is for the dietary management of maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) in children aged 3 years onwards and adults, including pregnant women (in conjunction with standard folic acid supplementation). MSUD Lophlex is available in 30 x 28g sachets in neutral flavour.
Indications
For enteral use only. ACBS approved, prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the dietary management of maple syrup urine disease in children aged 3 years onwards and adults.
Contra-Indications
Must be used under strict medical supervision. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. Not suitable for children under 3 years of age. Not suitable for tube feeding.
Precautions
This product must be supplemented with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to supply the isoleucine, leucine, valine and general nutrition requirements of the patient. Please monitor micronutrient intake to ensure that individual's intakes are optimal. MSUD Lophlex contains only trace amounts of sodium and chloride.
Preparation and Directions for Usage
The recommended intake should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only, and is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient. The daily intake should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day. Water or diluted drinks should be offered or taken at the same time. To ensure tolerance the product may initially need to be introduced at a lower concentration.
Recommended feed concentration: 28g powder (1 sachet) made up with 65ml water to give a final volume of approximately 80ml. The quantity and dilution of this product can be adapted to the tolerance and preferences of the individual under supervision of a clinician or dietitian.
Preparation Instructions
- Wash your hands and clean all utensils.
- Measure the recommended amount of cold water into a container with a screw top lid.
- Empty the contents of 1 sachet into the container. Seal and shake well until the powder is dissolved.
Important: MSUD Lophlex is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation. It can also be taken as a more concentrated drink, additional water or diluted drinks must be consumed at the same time. Do not boil and do not use a microwave oven to heat. Do not freeze.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use immediately. Packaged in a protective atmosphere.
