Product Description: Nutramigen PURAMINO is an amino acid-based, hypoallergenic infant formula designed for infants and young children with severe cow's milk allergy, multiple food allergies or failure to respond to an extensively hydrolysed formula. It is also for infants with other conditions where an elemental diet is recommended, including eosinophilic esophagitis and faltering growth. The formula contains Medium Chain Triglycerides oil to provide an easily available source of fats and energy in case of fat malabsorption. Suitable for infants from birth onwards when bottle fed and for young children. Nutritionally complete formula that can be used as a sole source of nourishment in infants up to 6 months of age or as part of a mixed diet for older infants and children.

Usage & Administration

Indications

Nutramigen PURAMINO is ACBS approved and prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the following indications: for the dietary management of cow's milk allergy, multiple food protein allergies, and other conditions where an amino acid-based diet is recommended.

Preparation Instructions

Standard concentration: 13.3% (1 level scoop = 4.4g to each 30ml of water)

1. Wash hands and sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions
2. Boil fresh water. Cool for no longer than 30 minutes. Do not use softened water. Pour desired amount of water into clean bottle
3. Add required number of level scoops of powder (see feeding guidelines). Store dry scoop in the can
4. Close bottle, roll and shake well until powder dissolves completely. Check temperature on inside of your wrist
5. Once prepared, formula can spoil quickly. Feed immediately after preparation or cover and store in a refrigerator at 2-4°C for no longer than 24 hours. Do not freeze prepared formula and do not use if unrefrigerated for more than a total of 2 hours. Use formula that has been in contact with the infant's mouth within 1 hour and do not refrigerate. Throw away prepared formula left in bottle and clean utensils

Warning: For the infant's health, we suggest advising parents to carefully follow the instructions for preparation and use. Proper hygiene, preparation, dilution, use and storage are important when preparing formula. Advise parents not to use a microwave to warm formula. Failure to follow these instructions could result in severe harm. Not for parenteral use (for enteral use only).

Feeding Guidelines (per day)

*Only use scoop in can to measure powder. 1 level scoop (4.4 g) to each 30 ml of water. Do not press powder into scoop and level off with the back of a clean and dry knife. Standard concentration 13.3%.

Storage Instructions

Powder storage: Store can in a cool dry place. After opening can, keep tightly covered, store in a dry area and use contents within 1 month. Do not freeze powder and avoid excessive heat.

Shelf life: 18 months from date of manufacture. Use within 1 month of opening.

Contraindications

Powdered formulas intended for infants are not sterile and should not be fed to premature infants or infants who might have immune problems, unless directed and supervised by a healthcare professional.

Important Notice

Breastfeeding is best for babies. The decision to discontinue breastfeeding may be difficult to reverse and the introduction of partial bottle-feeding may reduce breast milk supply. The financial benefits of breastfeeding should be considered before bottle-feeding is initiated. Failure to follow preparation instructions carefully may be harmful to the infant's health. Parents should always be advised by an independent healthcare professional regarding infant feeding. Products of Mead Johnson must be used under medical supervision.
