MSUD Aid III is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for use under medical supervision. MSUD Aid III is an unflavoured isoleucine, leucine and valine-free powder, containing a balanced mixture of the other essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. For the dietary management of proven Maple Syrup Urine Disease in children 10 years and over and adults. The formula must be used as part of a comprehensive dietary management plan and given in conjunction with a protein source to supply the leucine, isoleucine, valine, fluid and general nutrition requirements as prescribed by a clinician or dietitian.

Usage & Administration - MSUD Aid III
Indications
For the dietary management of Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) in children 10 years and over and adults. ACBS approved, prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland).
Contra-Indications
Not suitable for children under 10 years. Not suitable for use as a sole source of nutrition. This product should not be used as a sole source of protein but must be given in conjunction with a protein source to supply the leucine, isoleucine, valine, fluid and general nutrition requirements of the patient in quantities as prescribed by a clinician or dietitian.
Precautions
Must be used under medical supervision. For enteral use only. Regular monitoring of plasma amino acid levels is essential. Adequate fluid intake must be maintained.
Preparation and Directions for Use
The recommended dosage is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient, and should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only. Mix the powder with water or permitted drinks as directed by the dietitian. The typical reconstitution is 1 part powder to 3 parts water by weight to give a 25% solution (approximately 1.03 kcal/ml).
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated and use within 24 hours.
