Indications
For enteral use only. ACBS approved, prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the following indications:
- Short bowel syndrome
- Intractable malabsorption
- Patients with proven inflammatory bowel disease
- Bowel fistulae
Preparation Instructions
Standard Reconstitution Options:
- Standard concentration: 20% w/v (1 in 5) - 100g powder + 500ml water = 0.88 kcal/ml
- For osmotically sensitive patients: 13.3% w/v (1 in 7.5) - initial dilution recommended
- Emsogen can be taken as a more concentrated drink according to patients tolerance. Additional water or diluted drinks must be taken immediately after.
Step-by-Step Preparation
- Wash hands and use clean equipment to prepare feed.
- Weigh out the prescribed amount of Emsogen Powder.
- Add a small amount of the prescribed water and stir with a fork until a smooth paste is obtained.
- Continue stirring whilst adding the rest of the prescribed amount of water.
- Once reconstituted, store in a refrigerator and use within 24 hours.
- Shake or stir immediately before use.
Storage & Shelf Life
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Once sachet is opened, reseal and store in a cool dry place. Use within 2-3 days.
